Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 4 tbsp ice-cold water
- 6 cups Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4 inch thick
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 3/4 cup old fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Instructions:
- Whisk 1.5 cups flour and salt in a bowl. Work 1/2 cup cold butter into the flour using a pastry cutter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water until dough forms. Roll to 12 inches, place in a 9-inch pie dish, trim, and chill for 20 minutes.
- In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch until evenly coated. Pour the mixture into the chilled pie crust, mounding slightly in the center.
- Prepare the crumble by mixing oats, 3/4 cup flour, dark brown sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and 1/2 cup cold cubed butter. Rub together with fingers until large clumps form. Sprinkle evenly over the apple filling.
- Place pie on a baking sheet to catch drips. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 50 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
